City 6- Arsenal 3, City 4- Man utd 1, City 6- Spurs 0, City 4- Newcastle 0, City 7- Norwich 0. Such is the enormity of the task Chelsea face tonight when they head to the Eastlands to face Manchester City at the Etihad stadium. Manchester city are in boisterous mood. They are in fantastic form, scoring goals for fun and putting all comers to the sword. The stats speak for themselves. City have now scored 115 goals in all competitions this season, with 68 of those coming in the league. Last season, they managed only 66 in the league. They are well on course to beat the Premier league goal scoring record of 103 premier league goals in a season set by Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea in the 2009/2010 season. They have won all 11 games in the league at home scoring 42 and remain unbeaten in the premier league at home this season with their last home defeat in the Premier league coming in the final game of last season when they fell 3-2 to Norwich on May 19th last year in a match that was effectively a dead rubber with Manchester United already having wrapped up the league title. With such formidable credentials, City boast a huge threat to any team in this division and with Chelsea losing in their last 3 visits to the Etihad, there is genuine cause for optimism in the blue half of Manchester as regards tonight’s opponents.
- Chelsea and Mourinho however are no push overs. They will be well aware of the task facing them and with the unpredictability of this season and City talisman Sergio Aguero injured, nothing is seemingly impossible. Indeed, the lead at the top of the league has changed 18 times. Last season, it only happened on 4 occasions. Chelsea are in stellar form themselves having gone 8 games unbeaten winning 6 out of those and impressively, have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 away games. I expect Mourinho to go with a defensively minded 4-3-3 approach to mitigate the attacking threat of City with wingmen Hazard and Willian tucking in to help the midfield.
Key men: With Sergio Aguero injured, Alvaro Negredo is expected to carry city’s main threat tonight. Nicknamed ‘The Beast’, the summer arrival from Sevilla (70 goals in 139 apps for Sevilla) has settled in nicely at City with 23 goals in 33 games in all competitions.
- For Chelsea, Eden Hazard will be the man Jose Mourinho will expect to do damage to City. He is pivotal to Chelsea’s fast attacking movements and his pace, dribbling abilities and long range shooting could be an asset Chelsea will rely on tonight. Predicition: Jose loves such big games and more often than not gets his tactics right on the big occasion. He was a thorn in the flesh Of Manuel Pellegrini while both men were managing in Spain and I have a sneaky feeling it would continue tonight. I predict a 1-0 victory for Chelsea. Footynyx.
